About the Cyprus company:
Hellenic Copper Mines (HCM) was formed by a Cypriot company Hellenic Mining Co Ltd and Australian company Oxiana NL, later renamed to Oz Minerals. Since year 2010, the majority shareholder of the company is Iacovou Brothers (Overseas) Ltd.
Hellenic Copper Mines is exploiting the remaining low grade copper reserves of Cyprus. It was also the first mining company in Europe which introduced in 1996 the modern cost-efficient and environmentally friendly technology of hydrometallurgy. 100 per cent of company’s production is exported to European countries; since its formation, the company has produced and exported more than 60,000 tons of copper metal. Hellenic Copper Mines is also launching continuous metallurgical research in cooperation with Cypriot and foreign unversities.
The Cyprus company operates its own power station and 3 diesel generators to cover the energy needs of the mine’s plants.
